U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers: TL will face South Korea on thursday

DILI, 27 october 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste National U23 team will face South Korea on thursday (28/10), at around 6 pm local time.

After playing against South Korea, the Crocodile’s national team will be finishing their Group H games against the Philippines on sunday (31/10).

In the first match of Group H, South Korea defeated the Philippines 3-0 with three second-half goals to top the group.

In the second match of group H, Timor-Leste held to 2-2 draw against Singapore at the Jalan Besar Stadium of Singapore.

Group H is one of the 11 groups in the U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers tournament to decide which team will qualify for the 2022 AFCU-23 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan next year.

Group H consists of four teams: Timor-Leste, Singapore, the Philippines, and South Korea.

Only the top teams and four best runners-up from the 11 groups will go through to the 2022 AFC U-23 Asian Cup.

Crocodile’s main coach, Fabio Machado informed that Timor-Leste had been prepared so far and was ready to face South Korea on thursday.

“I have prepared my players for this tournament and we are ready. It is football and anything can happen one way or another,” said Machado.

In addition, the Secretary of the Football Federation Timor-Leste (FFTL), Nelio Isaac Sarmento said that neither Singapore nor the Philippines are the toughest teams, adding Timor-Leste has the possibility to beat these ASEAN countries, except for South Korea.
