DILI, 05 november 2021 (TATOLI)- President of the National Election Commission (CNE), José Agostinho Belo, said that today CNE held a meeting with the representatives of the United State’s Embassy in Timor-Leste the Charge d’Affaires Tom Daley to discuss the preparations that have been made by CNE in dealing with the 2022 presidential election.
“CNE wish to inform all preparations regarding the administration, technical and others related activities to the 2022 presidential ‘s election because the U.S is the owner of democracy in the world, They wish to work together with Timor – Leste to develop the democracy in our country,” Belo told reporters in the CNE ‘s office, Colmera Dili, today.
Belo added that the presidential election will take place in March 2022.
“I informed the representatives of the US Embassy that the election of presidential will take place in March 2022 but we are yet to know the exact date since it has not yet been decided by the President Lu Olo,” He said.
At the same place, the US Charge d’ Affaires Tom Daley appreciates CNE for the preparations made in facing the 2022 presidential election.
“The US wishes Timor-Leste to conduct the elections without intimidation, the presidential election must have a democratic nuance, the US is also worried about the security in Timor-Leste but the US appreciates CNE because all preparations regarding the security, administration and technical have been prepared by the CNE, We hope the presidential election in 2022 will run successfully,” said Daley.
