DILI, 18 january 2022 (TATOLI)– National Director of the Technical Secretariat of General Election Administration (STAE) Acilino Manuel Branco said STAE had identified three Parallel Voting Centers in Dili as reserves to secure voters in the presidential election on 19 March 2022.
“STAE will place Parallel Voting Centers in three places to ensure students and anyone with a voter card in the municipality can vote in a different place in Dili, such as the Vocational Technical School (STM) which will be used to prepare voters from 4 municipalities such as, Manatuto, Baucau, Vikeke, and Lospalos, the Parallel Voting Center of the former Ministry of Finance building in Kai-Koli will be prepared for voters from the municipalities of Aileu, Manufahi, Ainaro, and Suai and the Parallel Voting Center of the former Art building in Comoros will be reserved for voters from the municipalities of Likisa, Ermera, and Bobonaro,” Branco told Tatoli at his Kai-Koli office on Monday.
Branco added that these Parallel voting centers aim to facilitate voters whose voter cards in the municipality do not need to go to the municipality to conduct the presidential election on 19 March 2022 but can visit three centers in Dili.
“We carried out this Parallel Voting Center policy with the aim that everyone can optimally vote to increase the volume of participation in the presidential election which will be held on March 19, 2022,” said Branco.
Branco explained the three voting centers will be controlled by STAE, observers, the Timor Leste National Police (PNTL), and political party officials to ensure that elections are held based on democratic values and principles to anticipate electoral fraud in Timor – Leste.
