DILI, 21 february 2022 (TATOLI) – The President of the National Youth Council of Timor-Leste (CNJTL), Maria Dadi Soares Magno, said that the youth vote is decisive in the election of the future President of the Republic.
“Half of the Timorese population is young, so youth plays a decisive role in choosing the new Head of State”, he told journalists, as part of an awareness-raising action with young students from several secondary schools and university institutions, in Dili.
According to the official, young people must exercise their right to vote consciously, “with their heads”.
“I remember that in our Constitution it is said that the President of the Republic is the symbol of national unity to enforce the respective Constitution”, she said.
Maria Dadi Soares also highlighted the importance of young people voting in the next parliamentary elections for the political party that presents the country with a program with a solid and rigorous set of options in order to meet the needs of the population.
“Young people should learn about the programs of each political force so that when they go to the polls they can vote for the party that favors well-being, social justice, among other priorities”, she stressed.
Along the same lines, the President of the National Elections Commission, José Agostinho Belo, underlined the decisive role that the youth play in choosing the country’s destinies.
“The decision of the future presidential leadership is in the hands of the youth and the people”, she concluded.
