MOP-SEII holds sensible finance workshop on gender equality

DILI, 11 march  2022 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) and the State Secretariat for Equality and Inclusion (SEII) held a workshop on sensible finance on gender equality to empower women in all sectors, especially in the construction area.

The General Director of SEII, Armando da Costa, said the sensible finance workshop was conducted to hear all opinions from women to make the priority programs and then to put the State Budget of 2023, in empowering the women in all sectors especially in the construction sectors.

“MOP and SEII conducted a sensible finance workshop on gender equality to put a budget on priority programs such as women in civil construction. We wish to fight for the rights of women to have the same rights as men in Timor – Leste,” the Director General, Armando da Costa, told TATOLI in City8, Canossa, Has- Laran, Dili today.

General Director, SEII Amandio da Costa explained, “Sensible Finance Workshop” on gender equality is very crucial because with this workshop SEII and MOP will directly hear the ideas from women to carry out the priority programs in empowering women in all sectors through the 2023 Annual Budget in Timor-Leste.

At the same place the Director General of Administration and Finance of MOP, Januario Patricio Barbosa, said this workshop on gender-sensitive finance was aimed at socializing women’s rights to be involved in heavy work such as civil construction to get the same salary as men.

“Many women work on roads construction in rural area, doing heavy work but the salary is not the same as men, therefore this workshop of sensible finance on gender equality is carried out to gather all ideas from women in drafting the priority programs to empower women in their life, to involve them as the workers in civil construction,” Januario Patricio Barbosa said.

UN Women’s representative in Timor – Leste, Teresa Verdial de Araujo, appreciates the workshop of sensible finance on gender equality which is   conducted by MOP together with SEII. This workshop is very crucial because MOP and SEII wish to empower women to involve the infrastructure sectors in Timor –Leste.

“UN Women will always prepare the technical assistance together with MOP and SEII to empower the women base on the gender equality to live independently without any discrimination in Timor–Leste,’’ UN Women representative Teresa Verdial de Araújo added.
