DILI, 14 march, 2022 (TATOLI)- Plan International Timor-Leste (PITL) – a development and humanitarian organization that advances children’s rights and equality for girls, handed over the school’s construction material to support the Minister of Education Youth and Sport (MoEYS) for the school’s infrastructure rehabilitation in Bobonaro municipality – second-most western municipality on the east half of the Timor-Leste.

Country Director of PITL, Dilyana Ximenes said the objective of this support provided by PITL is to help MoEYS with the school infrastructure rehabilitation especially for those school buildings that have been affected by the natural disaster.
“PITL committed to support the government of Timor-Leste through the MoEYS since last ten years ago. PITL supports school construction materials, as the destruction of school buildings affected by the Natural disaster,” Country Director of PITL Dillyana Ximenes said in her remarks at MoEYS’s office, Vila Verde, this monday.
She added that PITL is a partner working closely with MoYS. PITL also supports education development on the school literacy and mobile library for students in three municipalities such as Aileu, Maubise, and Ainaro, as the main target in PITL’s coverage areas.
National Director of school and Social Action, Joaquim Amaral Martins said PITL is one of the most important partners for MoEYS.
It is a huge appreciation given to PITL for supporting school construction materials. The support will help to rehabilitate the broken school’s roof which was damaged by the heavy wind and rain.
The school construction materials are composed of 700 roofing zincs, 100 kg of nail or thumbtack, woods size 6/12 650 units, 5/10 size 6.50 units.
The school materials construction will be nine basic schools in bobonaro municipality.
He said that since the huge destruction of the school building in Bobonaro, students are having a teaching and learning process in chief of village rooms.
The school’s are closely connected with neighboring country Indonesia. It is required to be rehabilitated to ensure children living in the border line can access with dignity. They are not going to school in Indonesia territory.
It is known that 68 school buildings have been damaged. From 2020 to 2021 MoEYS has provided emergency support 36 and in 2022 also more emergency support for nine schools across the country. It is missing 23 school’s still not receiving support especially for school construction for rehabilitation.
This support is funded by Plan International – an organization established in 1973, with the amount of 20.000 USD.
