The Director of Becora’s prison, João Domingos said there are 474 prisoners available to have the right to vote in this presidential election.
“Especially for those who have the appropriate ages and completed with citizens register cards. All prisoners will have the right to give the preference for a new president,” The Becora’s prison director, João Domingos told reporters at Becora’s prison, this saturday.
He added that 12 prisoners will not vote due to mental sickness and even some prisoners are still underage. However, the number can be added up if any prisoner refuses to vote.
“They have the right not to vote. There is no forcible for prisoners to vote as they have the right to refuse to vote,” He said.
It is recorded that there are 27 children aged 16-21 in the becora’s prisoners. 15 children are not voting because they do not register cards. It includes 11 foreign and one Timorese prisoner who is still on medical treatment.
The mobile election will be carried out through each block. It is to ensure all prisoners can participate in voting for a new president.
He added, 16 prisoners are suffering from mental sickness of 15 and include one still on medical care. Their decision for voting is dependent on their will.
“All prisoners have the right to agree or to vote. There are no objections to any prisoner not allowed to vote. There and foreign people are not allowed to vote,” He said.
The director has required STAE to provide a registration card for the prisoners. STAE temporarily did not produce more registration cards for Timorese citizens, except just to renew the old cards.
STAE has produced 203 to replace the lost cards. However temporary STAE is not producing the new cards.
It is known that total prisoners in Becora prison are 481 prisoners.
