DILI, 4, 2022 (TATOLI)- PROCULTURAL PALPOL-TL project distributes certificates to 25 young Timorese people on literacy writing training.
According to a statement released from the European Union said, the 25 Timorese young people has been competing for a creative writing workshop, that aims to “Build narratives for children and youth”, in Timor-Leste.
At the training, each participant is required to write a children’s story and it will be chosen for editing and publication to give the best short stories produced in class.
The Ambassador of Portugal in Dili, Manuela Bairos said learning is not a simple process but it required effort and dedication.
“The new knowledge acquired through this creative writing workshop is the starting point in the conquest of a promising future for these 25 participants and writers in Portuguese.”
Mário Machado, representing the EU Delegation in Timor-Leste, said that “to authors and teachers the construction of narratives, stories and books are fundamental factors for increasing academic competitiveness, literacy and a manifestation of citizenship,”
Based on this reason, the EU is proud of its support for PRO-CULTURAL in actions aimed at providing a better future for teachers and children in Timor-Leste.
After the 20 hours dedicated to this training, held at the Portuguese Cultural Center of the Portuguese Embassy in Dili, the participants will be able to write a typical narrative space, time, and action of children’s imagination, to reinforce opportunities for creating and publishing literature for children and youth, adopting a perspective of national and regional identity resources, vector of teaching-learning and creativity, and is part of the activities promoted by PROCULTURA.
It is also to Promote Employment’s income, Generating Activities in the Cultural sector, in the PALOP, and Timor-Leste.
So far, the PRO-CULTURA PALOP-TL is an action of the Multiannual Indicative Program PALOP – Timor-Leste and European Union, funded by the European Union, co-financed and managed by Camões, I.P., and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
This workshop had the experience of the trainer and writer composed of Miguel Gullander, PhD in Linguistics, Languages and Literature and Master in Pedagogy for Development, and with the participation of guest Timorese writer Céu Lopes.
It is also a co-author of the book Counter Histórias com avó ao lap, in 2021, a work written by a Portuguese-speaking author that was launched in May last year, on the occasion of World Portuguese Language Day.
