DILI, 21 april 2022 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister (PM), Taur Matan Ruak, congratulated the candidate for President of the Republic for the period 2022-2027, José Ramos Horta, who was re-elected in the 2022 presidential election as the fifth President of the Republic of Timor-Leste.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate the candidate with the majority of votes José Ramos Horta on being elected as the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste,” The Prime Minister told reporters after a meeting with the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo, in the office of President Nicolao Lobato, Bairro – Pite Dili, this Thursday
The Head of Government also congratulated all the people of Timor-Leste on their participation in the second round of the Presidential election.
“Congratulations to all the people of Timor-Leste for their contribution and participation in this second round of presidential elections,” he said.
Previously, Ramos Horta had been the President of the Republic in the period of 2007-to 2012, and in the presidential election period 2022-to 2027, Ramos Horta was re-elected by the majority of the people of Timor-Leste with 397,145 votes (62.09%), while his competitor Francisco Guterres Lu Olo was only able to get 242,440 votes with a percentage of 37.91%.
Therefore, Jose Ramos Horta will officially become the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste after being sworn in on 20 May.
