China looking forward to working with Newly Elected President Ramos Horta

DILI, May 04, 2022 (TATOLI)—The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, to Timor-Leste, Xiao Jianguo, this morning handed over a congratulatory letter, messages from the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping to the Newly Elected President, José Ramos Horta.

In a letter, The President of China, Xi Jinping pointed out that, over the past 20 years since China and Timor-Leste established diplomatic relations, the two countries have continued to deepen their practical cooperation, developing bilateral relations on a large scale.

“These diplomatic relations bring tangible benefits to the people of China, which is a clear reflection of countries, large and small, treating each other equally and engaging in mutually beneficial cooperation,” The letter said. 

In the letter, President Xi Jinping also underlined the importance of developing a strong relationship between both countries and looking forward to working with the President-Elect, Ramos Horta.

“China is looking forward to working with President Ramos-Horta, to bring the comprehensive cooperative partnership of good neighborhood, friendship, mutual trust, and mutual benefit between the two countries to a new level,” the statement said. 

At the same time, José Ramos Horta appreciated the congratulations message from the Chinese leader and revealed that he had sent a letter to President Xi Jinping to participate in the 20th Anniversary of the Restoration of Independence which will be held on 20 May 2022.

“The letter I sent was only informal, but formally it had to go through the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo,” Ramos Horta told reporters at the Cabinet Office of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Farol Dili, this Wednesday.

Ramos Horta, also informed that previously he had received congratulatory messages from world leaders including Portugal, Guinea Bissau, CPLP, Australia, and other countries.
