DILI, 15 july 2022 (TATOLI)– The Director General of the Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment (SEFOPE), Paulo Alves, urges Timorese workers who have returned from South Korea to invest in the fisheries sector.
“SEFOPE urges East Timorese workers who have returned from South Korea to share and implement their experiences in Timor – Leste by investing in the fisheries sector. SEFOPE will provide facilities to develop their businesses,” said Alves.
Alves said SEPFOPE normally holds meetings with senior Timorese workers still working in South Korea and those who have returned to Timor-Leste to encourage them to do what will benefit the country.
“We usually hold meetings with Timorese working in South Korea and those who have returned to Timor-Leste to encourage them to share and implement their experiences in sustainable business, including in the fisheries sector but currently none of them have come forward with initiatives focus on fisheries,” he said.
SEPFOPE has registered more than 574 Timorese workers who recently returned from South Korea. These workers have worked in South Korean fisheries, therefore SEPFOPE expects some of them will have the initiative to invest in the fisheries sector to support their family’s economy, open up job opportunities for others and even contribute to Timor-Leste’s economic growth.
“Since fishery sector is a very strategic business opportunity to absorb a lot of income, SEFOPE urges them, to submit their proposals to receive support to carry out their business activities, but recently only a few workers have submitted their proposals,”
Alves also highlighted that the important purpose of sending workers abroad is to seek new experiences as well as to earn money to improve their living standards, thus those who have returned to Timor-Leste should at least be able to share experiences and open up business and job opportunities to others if possible.
