DILI, 03 august 2022 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste, through the Council of Ministers (CoM) authorized the Minister of Finance, Rui Augusto Gomes to initiate the negotiation with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on a multi-million-dollar loan project for improving safe drinking water and sewage in capital Dili.

“In addition to other water and sanitation projects, CoM has decided to authorize Minister Gomes to start negotiating with ADB, the specific conditions of a loan for the installation of a water supply system in the western part of Dili,” Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães said in Press Conference at the Presidential Palace, on wednesday.

He said the project is expected to cover a large area in the western part of Dili, including Tasi-Tolu: “This project will help install water supply systems to communities in the area as well as improve sewages in Dili.

“So, the Government is now intended to mobilize financial assistance in the form of loans for the improvement of water supply to communities in the western part of the city,” Magalhaes reiterated.

He said that: “Given the characteristics of the project, as well as the funding required, the Asian Development Bank is the appropriate counterparty to provide the loan.”
