DILI, 08 august 2022 (TATOLI)— Timor-Leste welcomed 15 Timorese athletes who returned home with 13 medals after participating Para-Games competition held to commemorate the 11th ASEAN Para-Games in Solo, Indonesia.
The 15 Athletes and their team on a Citilink Airbus A320-214 PK-GQF plane heading from Denpasar Dili and landed at Nicolau Lobato International Airport in Dili at 12:30 Timor-Leste hour.
After the arrival, the team was welcomed by the Minister of Education Youth and Sports, Armindo Maia, and his Deputy, António Guterres, The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Abrão Saldanha, and the Representative from the National Parliament
Speaking at the Nicolau Lobato International Airport, Minister of Education, Armindo appreciates the achievements made by the 15 Timorese Athletes saying “On behalf of the Government and the Prime Minister, I congratulate you for your achievements and welcome you back to Timor-Leste,” Maia said in his remarks at the VIP Room at the International airport of Nicolau Lobato, Comoro Dili.
So far the 13 medals including (6) gold medals, six (6) silver medals, and one (1) bronze medal, While the winner are Teófilo Freitas, Domingos Pereira, Domingas da Costa; Pascoela dos Santos, Abelita Borges and Bernardo de Carvalho from table tennis and José Aniceto.
Athlete Teófilo Freitas represents his team, saying he is proud to become a winner of three gold medals.
“I am very proud to receive three medals for Timor Leste. Thank you to the club and coach Rui Alves,” he said.
It is known that the athletes had attended training for three months before leaving for Indonesia on July 21, 2022.
