DILI, august 18, 2022 (TATOLI)- United Stated International Development Agency (USAID) officially announced additional funding worth 600.000 USD to help Timor-Leste fight covid-19 through sustainability activities of the health system in Timor-Leste.

U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, Tom Daley said Timor-Leste can be very proud of the fact that more than 88% of the population aged 12 and over have received their first dose of vaccinations and 76% of this same group have received their second dose of the vaccinations.

“This has been a huge undertaking, and I congratulate all those who were involved in this significant achievement, especially the frontline health workers,” Tom Delay said.

Consequently, the U.S. is pleased to announce an additional $600,000 in funding from the United States to support USAID’s Health System Sustainability activities.

These funds will be focused on supporting activities in the municipal health service including targeted advocacy, the distribution of important information to combat common misperceptions, and door-to-door outreach to people who may still be skeptical about receiving the vaccine.

“This announcement marks another milestone in our support to help Timor-Leste respond to Covid-19 and strengthen security,”

Minister of Health, Odete Viegas da Silva said Timor-Leste should be very proud to have received support from the United States to strengthen the sustainability activities of the health system in Timor-Leste.

“This is not the first support from the United States, but it is additional support from the U.S for Timor-Leste’s Ministry of Health to strengthen the health system at the municipal level,”

These funds will be used by the Minister of Health to provide resilience to communities across the country including RAEOA Oe-Cusse.

The Ministry of Health assesses that Covid-19 has not ended in Timor-Leste, these funds are also used for the prevention of the virus to ensure human immunity in the vaccination program.

“We must anticipate the outbreak of covid-19 in the future and we can respond to our health system, especially by providing human resilience,”

Timor-Leste is not only strengthening the health system but also how to maintain the system to continue actively which means the government must provide more financial and human resources to adjust to partner resources for the prevention system.

The Ministry of Health believes that these additional funds will be managed responsibly to benefit the people in this country and even achieve the government’s sustainable gold.

So far, the United States has worked side by side with the Timorese government to provide more than $7.4 million for critical assistance and more than 200,000 Pfizer Vaccines since the beginning of the pandemic.

“With all the support more than 1.7 million doses have been administered and   Timor-Leste can continue to rely on the support of the United States,”
