DILI, 26 august 2022 (TATOLI)— International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) supports Timor-Leste Red Cross (TLRC) to achieve common development goals in a humanitarian mission.

According to a statement issued by the IFRC, the commitment conveyed at the meeting hosted by IFRC and TLRC together with the National Societies of the United States, New Zealand, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Italy, Japan, and Australia along with the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC). International NGOs; United Nations and Government Ministries, focus on providing support to TLRC to achieve common goals in humanitarian missions and development goals.

It is said that the support focused on developing capacity for sustainable service delivery and enhancing integrated risk reduction and resilience-building programs for vulnerable people in Timor-Leste.

The Chairperson of TLRC, Madalena Hanjan, considered this an important opportunity to demonstrate the work being done at TLRC, and plans for the future to continue to serve the people of Timor-Leste.

“Red Cross communities from around the world, NGO Partners, and Governments will join together to reflect on our past work, learn from our challenges and plan for the future – so we can continue to support vulnerable communities across our country,” said Madalena Hanjan in a statement.

TLRC, Secretary General Luis Pedro Pinto said TLRC operates in 13 municipalities in Timor-Leste and has demonstrated its capacity to make the change from within the country’s most vulnerable communities.

In recent years Timor-Leste has experienced floods, COVID, and Dengue Fever, and TLRC has always been there to support vulnerable communities.

“I am confident that our beneficiary voices, best practices, and lessons will be learned through discussion over the coming days,” he said.

According to Pinto, this Partner Cooperation meeting is a very positive step meeting for all to be able to come together face to face.

“This is an important opportunity to have an open discussion about relations with TLRC, the Red Cross Movement, the Government of Timor-Leste, and non-movement partners so that together we can meet the needs of vulnerable people in the community in Timor-Leste,” he said.
