DILI, 31 august 2022 (TATOLI)—Australia’s Defense Forces and the United States through TTX (Table Top Exercise) program provide training support to Timor-Leste’s Civil Protection Authority to prepare for humanitarian assistance and disaster aid response, which will start on august 31, 2022 and end on September 7, 2022.
Charge d’Affaires of the United States Embassy to Timor-Leste, Tom Daley said, it is an honor to be able to start the 2022 multinational tournament exercise known as TTX specifically in providing humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
“People across the TL and the indo-pacific region have already felt the impact of natural disasters, especially climate change, more than 70% of the world’s natural disasters occur in this region alone. The terrible flood that hit TL in 2021 is just one example. That is why the work you will do during this exercise is so important, ensuring preparation and will help turn unimaginable future crises into more manageable ones,” said the US Embassy Representative at the Timor Hotel, Wednesday.
Deley explained that this activity is an important example of how the United States is working with international partners to advance a safer and more resilient Indo-Pacific and South East region.
“These efforts will also help all to develop effective disaster response and management capacities,” he said.
The Deputy Minister of Interior, António Armindo appreciates the U.S and Australia Governments for the support provided to the government of Timor-Leste through the Secretariat of State for Civil Protection (SoSCP) by initiating the TTX exercise.
“TTX program is to evaluate an institution’s readiness for a specific disaster, and inform participants who need their role in disaster response,” he said.
Apart from that, it is also to advocate for and strengthen the lines of coordination and communication between the TL government through the SEPS and all related entities such as ministries, diplomatic corps, UN agencies, national and international, and social NGOs.
He believes this TTX will provide comprehensive and meaningful insight on how to respond to all forms of disasters that may occur anytime and anywhere in the TL region.
