DILI, 01 september 2022 (TATOLI)- Australia’s Government will provide Timor-Leste with 20 million Australian Dollars to support the Government programs.
Australia’s Foreign Minister, Penny Wong said at the press conference held in the Timor-Leste Foreign Affairs office, Dili Timor-Leste.
Minister Wong said the budget was included in the Australian 2022-2023 State budget.
“Australia will provide an additional AUD 20 million taken from the COVID-19 response package that intends to offer to Timor-Leste. This fund is set to support the co-financing program managed and delivered by the TL Government,” said Minister Wong.
The fund will be used to support the payments for children and pregnant women in the “Bolsa da Mãe Nova Geração” program and the Timor-Leste Development Program known as PNDS.
In addition, Australia also supports additional skills training linked to the Labor Mobility program.
“Australia had the same ambition to make Timor-Leste stronger, more prosperous, and more resilient,”
According to Minister Wong, in line with Australia’s commitment and ambition to make Timor-Leste much stronger as a nation, Australia provides every year 100 million Australian dollars to support the Government develops various programs that have been implemented by the Government which is different from the 20 million dollars.
“This (20 million Australian dollars) is additional funding from what we have and what we propose every year,” She said.
So far the visit of Australia’s Foreign Minister intends to expand the working together commitment and enhance the workforce Mobility program in Timor-Leste and the Pacific region.
