Gusmão offers condolences over Queen Elizabeth II’s death

DILI, 09 september 2022 (TATOLI) – The former Prime Minister and President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, today, offered his deepest condolences following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

In 2003, Timor-Leste’s Charismatic Leader, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão was awarded the Honorary Knighthood of the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael & St. George, by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Gusmão said he is very thankful for the award that he received from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, in 2003: “It’s such a great privilege for me and I pay my respect to her.”

“I pray that her soul rests in peace,” Gusmão said at Dili’s International Airport, today.

Britain’s longest-reigning monarch died peacefully on thursday afternoon aged 96, at her home in Scotland, where she had spent much of the summer.

Her death was announced online by the royal family, saying Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully.

Tributes have been paid across the world, following her death. While many commonwealth countries ordered flags to be flown to half-staff until the queen’s funeral. Her eldest son, Charles, is elevated to the throne, as King Charles III.

Following the death of King George VI, Queen Elizabeth II was elevated to the throne as Queen of the UK on June 2, 1953.
