DILI, 16 september 2022 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta considered the visit of ‘Le Laperouse’ to Timor-Leste a great tourism promotion for the country.
“The visit of the ‘Le Laperouse’ cruise helped to promote Timor-Leste’s tourism. Tourists of different nationalities on the cruise ship came here to visit Timor-Leste. Tourists from France, Australia, and Spain expressed their feeling of joy about visiting Timor-Leste,” Horta told reporters after visiting the cruise ship Le Laperouse in the port of Dili, on thursday.
During his visit to the cruise ship ‘Le Laperouse’, President Horta shared with the tourists about the peaceful situation in the country.
“I spoke with many tourists during my visit. I shared with them about our current situation, telling them that there is no political, ethnic, or religious conflict in Timor-Leste. I also talked about our economic situation,” said Horta.
He said the tourists were admired and amazed by the peaceful situation in Timor-Leste, where the school children were going to school in their uniforms with joy and freedom.
“I asked them to try Timorese coffee. They showed sympathy,” Horta said.
Before leaving the cruise ship, Horta asked the tourists to visit Timor-Leste again in the future.
The ‘Le Laperouse’ arrived at the cruise port terminal in Dili on thursday (15/09), around 7.30 am local time, carrying 125 tourists of different nationalities.
During their visit to Dili, these tourists visited a number of attractions and historical sites, namely the statue of Cristo Rei, Centro Nacional Chega!, the National Museum, Santa Cruz Cemetery, Tais Market, and the Timorese Coffee Cooperative.
Tourism is one of the nation’s most important economic sectors and has significant potential to play a central role in Timor-Leste’s economic growth in the future.
Tourism will boost economic growth, create jobs, improve social development and promote peace.
