Timorese workers in Australia and South Korea contribute total of $78 million wages income back home

DILI, 21 september 2022 (TATOLI)— The National Director of Foreign Workers, Filomeno Soares said, Timorese workers in Australia and South Korea have contributed the income to the State, saying since 2009 until 2022 SEPFOPE has recorded the combined wage income of these workers as $78 million back home.

“The Labour Mobility Scheme gave the opportunities to the Timorese to work in Australia and South Korea, of the total number that residing in both countries, SEFOPE has recorded combined wages income of these workers as $78million back home,” Filomeno Soares told Tatoli in His office, on wednesday. 

The combined wages were contributed by a total of 7700 workers from Australia and South Korea, of the total number 4000 workers in South Korea have contributed $43 million in revenue while 3.700 workers in Australia contributed $35 million in revenue. 

“I have confidence that Timorese workers will get more opportunities and for the workers you have to get ready to apply for these opportunities to reduce the social problems that we face within this country,”
