DILI, 29 september, 2022 (TATOLI)- Care International Timor-Leste (CITL) and Non-Government Organization FOKUPERS (NGO) cooperate to implement advocacy for National Level Disaster Risk Reduction for the most vulnerable groups to ensure the needs and priorities of the groups answered.

The Human Resource Director, Acting Country Director of CITL, Yeni Perreira said, Common experiences reveal that women and people with disabilities are mostly left behind due to less absence in the DRR preparedness and planning process, therefore this cooperation agreement between the parties will ensure that the planning, allocation and execution and auditing resource will equally meet their diverse needs.

“ We wish to help build the community where everyone is included. FOKUPERS is powerful with its advocacy and they are experienced in the area of gender equality in Timor-Leste. We believe that with this partnership, everyone, and particularly vulnerable groups, will be at the center of national disaster risk reduction and response efforts,’’ Yeni Pereira told journalists in Care’s office, Bairru Pité, this thusday.

The director of FOKUPERS, Maria Pereira Guterres said This partnership reinforces the Government’s commitment to achieving gender equality, as part of the sustainable development goals and the National Strategic Development Plan 2011-2022.

“We want to ensure that everyone who is a part of disaster emergency efforts increases their capacity and knowledge on the importance of gender-responsive and budget to be gender-sensitive, and stay committed to this work once they are sensitized to the issue,” said Guterres.

So far, gender-responsive and effective National Level Disaster Risk Reduction plans and budgeting are implemented through the Civil Protection Authority and Empowered by FOKUPERS.

FOKUPERS will empower staff from CPA to attend capacity building on gender protection issues.

”About 30 staff will join in capacity building to help them develop an annual plan that focuses on gender protection issues,”

The Disaster Ready Project is funded by the Australian Government with a total budget of USD 67,500 over 4 years, from September 2022 to December 2026, while the annual budget is USD 15,000.
