DILI, september 29, 2022 (TATOLI) – Ministry of Tourism, Commerce, and Industry (MTCI) through the tourist’s department officials reported that the visit of Le Laperouse Cruise from Australia has contributed more than US$700 to the economy’s income for sellers of local products and handicrafts.
“The business groups presented the exhibition and sale stalls in the port of Dili with handcrafted products such as currency paste, jewelry, and green coconuts, among others. The total income of the sellers is more than 700 US dollars”, said the Director of the Tourism Information Center, António da Silva, in Lecidere.
da Silva said that tourists contributed US$123 to the Archive of the Timor-Leste Resistance Museum and each tourist also paid US$30 on entry visas for immigration at the port of Dili.
According to da Silva, the tourists’ visit also benefited travel agencies and they also offer temporary employment for student guides.
da Silva mentioned that tourists were satisfied with the immigration service at the port of Dili for speeding up visas.
da Silva said that between January and September, 64 foreign tourists came to ask for information to visit tourist attractions in Timor-Leste.
da Silva expressed his concern that tourists complained about the inadequate conditions of taxis and the manipulation of prices for private transport trips.
In the preview, the director of CCT, Adelino Do Carno reported that the 125 international tourists also contributed some revenue to the cooperative by purchasing Timorese coffee worth 1.200 USD, within purchased Timorese coffee.
It is known that Timorese National Achieve and Museum (TRAM), has drawn 118 USD of its income from international tourist visits.
