Timor-Leste mission team started preparing for the 2022 Guinea Bissau election

DILI, 13 october 2022 (TATOLI) – The Mission Team from Timor-Leste Supporting the Guinea-Bissau 2022 Electoral Registration Process has started technical preparations for registration in the country.

The Head of the Mission, Acilino Manuel Branco, said the preparation will soon be completed.

“The team is checking the completeness of voter registration, and monitoring the preparation of election books,” he said.

According to Branco, the team also met with the Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau, Nuno Gomes Nabiam, and with representatives of the Office of Technical Support for the Guinean Electoral Process, the Ministry of Territorial Affairs and Local Power, and the General Elections Commission (KPU) to discuss other types of support.

Acilino Branco also highlighted that the Head of the Guinean Government was pleased that Timor Leste’s support on the voter registration process is a response to the affirmation of his request”.

He pointed out that the team registered 300 polling centers in nine regions of Guinea-Bissau.

The Mission Team departed on September 30 and will stay in Guinea Bissau until November 15.

So far the team consisted of eight Ministries, one from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MNEC), three from the Ministry of State Administration (MAE), and four from the Electoral Administration Technical Secretariat.
