DILI, 14 October 2022 (TATOLI)- Timor Aids requested the government to provide a museum to preserve, protect and conserve 300 types of Timorese Tais.
The founder of Timor Aids, Ceú Lopes said since 2002 Timor Aids has been collecting 300 pieces of Tais saying these Tais are required to place in a proper museum for the safeguarding of their originality.
“ We are requesting to the government through the secretary of state art and cultural (SSAC) to establish a museum to keep the Tais,’’ The Founder of Timor Aids, Ceú Lopes told reporters in the national museum of resistance, colmera, this friday.
She added All Tais must be preserved and placed in the proper place, adding not to lose the originality of the TAIS color.
“It is most important to protect and safeguard the originality of Timorese Tais. Timor Aids has been working very hard and cooperating with all sacred houses across the county, since 2002, Timor Aids has collected more than 300 pieces of Tais in 20 years,”
General Director of Art and Cultural, Manuel Ximenes Smith said Timorese History and Tais are considered material and immaterial cultural patrimony.
“We consider History and Tais as the descendent of our ancestors and must be preserved, and it is reflating to the soul of our ancestors. therefore we are in coordination with the President of Republic José Ramos Horta to realize national festival Art and cultural competition at the municipalities level while it will be soon realized in Atauru municipality,’’ Manuel Ximenes Smith said
The national festival Art and cultural competition will be realized from 21 to 24 November 2022.
The United State of America Chargé d’Affaires in Timor-Leste, Tom Daley said the United State of America is proud to support local women to produce traditional clothes Tais, saying the aim is to get the income to respond to the family economy and at the same time help all people who are working hard to preserve, protect, and safeguard the cultural patrimony.
Thus, the United State of America through USAID is working hard to ensure the Timor-LesteTais must be internationally recognized.
USID and SSAC submitted Timorese Tais to UNESCO on March 2020 and was officially announced by UNESCO as Cultural patrimony on 14 December 2021.
So far, the government through the Secretary of State for Art and Cultural has decided on 14 October as a national day for cultural patrimony in Timor- Leste.
