DILI, 21 October 2022 (TATOLI) – The government appeals to the people of Timor Leste who wish to travel abroad to avoid false promises and fraudulent actions from illegal agents who facilitate workers to work abroad.
“The government calls on national travel agencies to avoid misleading citizens with false promises about working abroad,” a Government statement seen by Tatoli said.
In the statement, the Government asked travel agents to inform their clients to have an employment contract before traveling to avoid possible fraudulent situations.
At the same time, the Government also informed that it will take the necessary steps to prevent and follow up on travel agents who intend to provide false information to citizens, which will be considered an act of human trafficking.
Previously, the High Council for Defense and Security (CSDS) and the Head of State, José Ramos Horta, had discussed the situation regarding the five thousand Timorese nationals currently in Portugal.
