DILI,28 october 2022 ( TATOLI)– The Government of China through its Embassy in Timor – Leste, today handover the equipment and material to the National Police of Timor – Leste (PNTL) to ensure security in the country.
“The material donated to the PNTL today is an example of our good cooperation with the police. I believe that PNTL will utilize the equipment to ensure the national security to protect the people of Timor – Leste, and further enhance the law enforcement capabilities of the PNTL,” Ambassador of China to Timor – Leste, Xiao Jianguo told the media at the PNTL headquarter Cai-Coli Dili.
According to Ambassador, the materials consist of 2,000 units of Berret, 1000 units of field sleeping bags, over 1,000 units of police sticks, and 100 units of solar-panel lights, amounting to US$ 80,000 ( 500,000 RMB Yuang).
The Ambassador of China Xiao Jianguo, added that China has attached great importance to police in cooperation with Timor-Leste adding that China is always willing to do its best to assist the capacity building for Timor-Leste’s national police and contribute to the security and stability of Timor – Leste.
He explained that in recent years China and Timor – Leste have made joint efforts in the field of police cooperation including human resources, equipment and infrastructure, and other aspects saying that the piratical cooperation between the two sides has achieved fruitful results and played important role in bilateral relations.
” I hope that the Government of Timor – Leste will endorse the initiative cooperation and join hands for a prosperous and safe world. In the future China will continue to work with Timor – Leste to consolidate political mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas including law enforcement and continue to strengthen the comprehensive relationship between our two countries,” he said.
At the same place the Commissaries of PNTL, Faustino da Costa, Thanked the Chinese Government through Its Embassy in Dili for the support provided to the PNTL today.
“On behalf of the Government and PNTL, I thanked the Government of China through its Embassy in Timor – Leste for its supporting material today. Hopefully, that equipment and material will be used by PNTL to ensure National Security across the country,” he said.
According to Faustino da Costa, the equipment will be distributed to the Municipal police.
Previously in 2019 the Government of China through its Embassy in Timor – Leste had donated 4500 pieces of PNTL s uniforms and 4500 units of a rain jackets, and according to plan the Government of China will donate some motorbike to PNTL in 2023 to ensure the national security to protect the people of Timor – Leste including the citizenship of China in Timor – Leste.
