DILI, 01 december, 2022 (TATOLI) – The Press Council (PC) provided capacity building for 30 journalists to increase their awareness of using the manual for news reporting on the 2023 parliamentary election.
Journalists consist of various media, newspapers, radio, television, and online media.
“We are on our way to the cycle of parliamentary elections, so we organized this training session for journalists to focus on manual news coverage in parliamentary elections,” said IC President, Virgílio Guterres, in Audian, today
Guterres explained that the introduction of the manual is a reference that would help journalists report on the election process for the publication of quality information.
Journalists will convey correct information about political party campaigns so that citizens can consciously choose a political party because it will determine the future government in the country.
According to Guterres, this manual complies with the code of ethics and media laws, so it will help journalists avoid the tendency to lean towards political parties in elections and sensationalized headlines in the news.
The President appealed to the media to coordinate with political parties to prevent the use of inappropriate language in election campaigns if activities take place during live transmission on radio and television channels.
