DILI, 30 november 2022 (TATOLI) – UN Women and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Timor-Leste (CCI-TL), on wednesday, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to offer entrepreneurship training for Timorese female entrepreneurs in the municipalities of Dili, Liquica and Manatuto.
The female entrepreneurs will learn a number of important topics, namely financial literacy, business management, and market access.
“We support CCI-TL to train more than 100 female entrepreneurs from the three municipalities. The agreement aims to improve women’s business management skills. We need to empower women in Timor-Leste,” said Nishtha Satyam, the Head of the Office of UN Women in Timor-Leste.
In addition to training for women, UN Women will also support local women entrepreneurs with equipment such as solar panels.
Satyam assured that the entrepreneurship training program would be extended to other municipalities to engage more women in business.
CCI-TL President George Serrano thanked UN Women for the initiative, saying that Timorese women need to be in leadership positions in business management.
“Women possess all required skills for running businesses. I hope this training will benefit our fellow female entrepreneurs,” he said.
