DILI, 08 february 2023 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta said he would decree the Electoral Calendar for Parliamentary Elections on february 20.
Horta said that there will be more consultations with small political parties before the official announcement of the Electoral Calendar.
“We have not yet concluded the consultation with the political parties. It is important to hear the opinions of small parties regarding the date for the Parliamentary Elections,” President Horta made the comments at the Presidential Palace, today.
He said that so far there is no issue with Timor-Leste’s preparation for the upcoming general elections.
The Head of State suggested that if the discussion on the fifth amendment to the Electoral Law for Parliament takes time, then the Government can just use the previous electoral law.
It is recalled that the previous parliamentary elections were held on may 12, 2018, and the result of the elections was announced at the end of the month .
