DILI, 13 february 2023 (TATOLI) –The Program Manager of Education and Research of the Association of Visual Impairment of Timor – Leste, (AHDMTL), Luciano Borges said that over 520 members of AHDMTL had mastered the Braille letter and get ready to attend the 2023 Parliamentary‘s election.
“We had provided over 520 members of AHDMTL with the training of Braille letter. Currently, they have mastered the braille letter which can help them for reading and writing, thus they are also ready to attend the 2023 Parliamentary election without any assistance by the polling staff,’’ Luciano Borges told TATOLI in Timor – Plaza Dili on monday.
He explained, AHDMTL will continue to empower the other members to access the braille letter training, aiming to facilitate them to read and write while also access to public information to contribute to the national development in Timor – Leste.
“AHDMTL recorded over 14,000 eyes disabled in the national territory but, at the moment only 520 only who had concluded their braille training. We will continue to encourage others to attend the braille letter training and hope that, AHDMTL will cover all members gradually beyond 2023,’’ he said.
So far AHDMTL received the support of braille letter equipment from UNICEF, and UNDP with the support of the Government Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion to empower members of AHDMTL to increase their writing and reading skills through Braille training.
