Parliament expresses condolences to Turkey, and Syria over devastating earthquake

DILI, 13 feberuary 2023 (TATOLI) – The National Parliament expressed its deepest condolences and solidarity with Turkey and Syria on monday (13/02) after a massive earthquake devastated parts of the two countries.

Deputy Secretary of the National Parliament, António Nobre Tilman, noted that several search and rescue teams are still working hard to find the missing persons among the rubble.

“In this moment of pain and mourning, the National Parliament expresses its sorrow for this catastrophic event and its solidarity with the Turkish and Syrian people and authorities. We expressed our deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” he said.

France 24 reported that the death toll from the catastrophic earthquake has now reached approximately 33,000, but the UN warned that the final number could rise by “double or more”.

According to the latest official figures, there have so far been around 30,000 deaths reported in Turkey and more than 3,000 in Syria.

In the Republic of Turkey, more than 60,000 residential buildings are estimated to have collapsed.
