DILI, 15 february 2023 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF)through the National Department of Agricultural Extension (DNEA) planned to recruit another 500 agriculture extension workers to cover 465 villages in the national territory of Timor – Leste.

General Director of MAF, Cesar José da Cruz, said the plan to recruit more extension workers due to the limited number of workers in the field to assist the farmers in 465 villages across 13 municipalities to ensure food security in Timor – Leste.

“We have 413 Agricultural extension workers in Timor – Leste, since 2008 -2023 but currently we have over 383 agricultural extension workers on duty, while the rest have stopped their work. Of the 383 agricultural extension workers, some cover 9-12 villages to assist the farmers. With the lack of agricultural extension in Timor – Leste, MAF had planned to recruit another 500 to cover all villages in the national territory said the General Director of MAF Cesar José da Cruz to TATOLI in his office, Comoro Dili on wednesday.

Concerning the recruitment process, Cruz emphasized that MAF plans to place the budget for recruitment in a state budget.

He added that the recruitment of agriculture extension workers is very important because the role of agricultural extension workers is very crucial to help farmers improve their farming to increase the local production in Timor – Leste.
