DILI, 20 february 2023 (TATOLI) – The Director General of Industrial and Coffee plantation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF), Raimundo Mau said the Government of Timor – Leste, through the MAF has provided 700,000 Seed House and seed coffee to plant on the 8,000 hectares of land within this year.
Mau said the Government‘s plan will conduct the revitalization of old coffee trees on 8,000 hectares of land and at the moment the MAF continue to cut all the old coffee tree and will plant a new coffee tree this year.
“At the moment the revitalization of the old coffee tree was done in Fatuquero Ermera, the Government through MAF had provided 700,000 seed houses and the seed of coffee to distribute to farmers to plant in the place provided,’’ said Raimundo Mau to TATOLI in his office, Cai- Coli Dili on monday.
According to Mau, the revitalization was done because old coffee trees at the moment are no longer productive.
“Since 2019 MAF has been planting trees in the 400 hectares of land aiming to protect the coffee trees, thus in the year 2023 beyond, will plant 700,000 coffee seeds, hopefully by 2030, we will restore coffee plantation to 60,000 hectares of productive coffee and can result in many fruits and increase the productivity of coffee from 200 kg to 400 for each coffee tree,’’ he said.
Meanwhile the budget for the revitalization of coffee taking from the 2022 state budget, allocated by MAF And Secretary State of Environment (SSE) worth $ 6,3 million for the revitalization of the coffee trees in the Municipality of Ermera, Likisa, Aileu, Ainaro, Bobonaro, Manufahi, and Manatuto.
