EU provides 666,667 Euro to PITL to implement a new project in Three municipalities

DILI, 9 march 2023, (TATOLI)- European Union (EU) provided financial support worth 666,667 Euro (706,021.73 US Dollars) to Plan International Organization (NGO) to implement the new project “Towards inclusive and assured future full potential of Timorese in all diversity’’.

This project will be implemented in coordination with ARCORIS and Vision imperial Association of Timor-Leste (AHDMTL) aimed to provide information to avoid stigma and discrimination against LQBTL and People with disability in three municipalities.

The Ambassador European Union to Timor-Leste, March Friedrich said the EU plays the most important rules to prevent social stigma and discrimination against the LGTBQ community and people with disability in Timor-Leste therefore EU is committed to supporting the government of Timor-Leste and civil society to ensure LGBT groups and people with disability to access the inclusive facility in Timor-Leste.

“ We provide some support to help government and Civil Societies Association to work on providing information and equipment that benefit to Timorese disabled and LGBT community in Timor-Leste,’’ The Ambassador European Union, March Friedrich said in his remarks at Delta Nova, Comoro, this Thursday.

The EU assessed that people with disability also face some other challenges such as access to health and school facilities, same as some groups of LGBT in Timor-Leste are suffered from social stigma and discrimination which is a lack of access to protection for equality that impacts human rights violation.

Acting Country Director of Plan International, Fatima Estrela Soares said PITL appreciated so much to the European Union for providing financial support to the PITL to implement the new project towards inclusive and assured future full potential of Timorese in all diversity.

“We will implement this project with two groups of Civil Society composed of ARCORIS Timor-Leste and (AHDMTL) Vision imperial Association of Timor-Leste,’’ She added.

This project will be implemented in three municipalities composed of Dili, Ainaro, and Ermera with a project duration of two years and five months.

SoSGE, Armando Da Costa said the government of TL has the policy and responsibility to ensure all people who are living in disability conditions get the right to access inclusion at the societal level. Therefore the government is committed to promoting all basic rights for all people with disability in the most specific way.

“I trust on Plan International organization to be able to provide more specific service to support the community of LGBT and people with disability, for those are not living within inclusion situation and access for facilities they might deserve for,” he added.
