Australia – TL launch two days workshop on women’s economic empowerment

DILI, 30 may 2023 (TATOLI)- The government of Australia through the “Partnership for Inclusive Prosperity program (PROSIVU) program and the Secretary of Equality and Inclusion (SEII) together with the Ministry of Economy Affairs and Coordination (MCAE) launched a two-day workshop, on women’s economic empowerment.

The workshop was organized to ensure the implementation of government compromises to empower women politically, socially, and economically in the economic development strategy.

Australian Chargé d’Affairs in Timor-Lete, Caitlin Wilson said it is most important for Timorese women to participate in economic development. The workshop will help develop women’s human capital, but it will also bring greater protection from exploitation or abuse.

“Australia is in partnership with the PROSIVU program, which builds on international evidence. We will show the value of building human capital by making use of women’s and man skills. Increasing of skills workers in the economy,’’ Australian Chargé d ’affairs in Timor-Leste, Caitlin Wilson told journalists in Timor Plaza, this Tuesday.

She added creating more opportunities for women in the formal sector will be the key to realizing these gains.

Australia provided support for developing policies to empower women as well as men to involve in economic development.

Secretary of State for Gender Inclusion, Maria Dos Rosario Correia said this workshop will empower women to develop the economic sector in Timor-Leste.

“Therefore the subjects that will be presented in the workshops include the principles roles of Women’s Economy Empowerment, Progress, and challenges and also to present the key point of a result of research to be linked women to the market and for those women without permanent income,’’ She said.

This workshop participated by esteemed officers from SEII (say-ee) Sekretaria Estadu ba Igualdade no Inkluzaun, UN Women, Oxfam Associação Empresarial das Mulheres de Timor-Leste (AEMTL or Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Timor-Leste), Rede Feto as well as our very own DFAT-funded programs such as TOMAK and PROSIVU.
