DILI, 09 june 2023 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, in his regular meeting with the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, discussed the preparations for the handing-over ceremony between the outgoing and incoming government.
“It is my regular meeting with the Head of State and I informed him about the last meeting of the Council of Ministers that took place on wednesday (07/09) and we are ready to welcome the new government,” Ruak told reporters at the President’s Palace, in Dili, today.
During the meeting, the Head of State asked the outgoing Prime Minister to meet the upcoming Prime Minister in person, whom many expected to be Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão.

“President Horta asked me to speak in person with the upcoming Prime Minister and I accepted the request. I am willing to speak with the new head of government even after the swearing-in ceremony,” he said.
Ruak said that he had ordered his ministers to leave office responsibly: “They should wait until new ministers are ready to take office then they can leave.”
The swearing-in of the new members of the government is likely to take place shortly after the inauguration the new members of the parliament, scheduled for june 22.
According to the official announcement of the parliamentary election results by the Court of Appeal, on monday (05/06), CNRT was declared the winner of the elections to form a coalition government with Democratic Party, which won six seats. Meanwhile, the three outgoing ruling parties only secured 28 seats, including 19 from FRETILIN, five from KHUNTO, and four from the PLP.
