DILI, 31 july 2023 (TATOLI)— The National Scout Union of Timor-Leste (UNE-TL) sent its 25 Timorese members to attend the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea.

The 25th World Scout Jamboree will take place from August 1 to 12, 2023, in SaeManGeum, Jeollabuk-do, and the Republic of South Korea. The theme of the 2023 World Scout Jamboree is “Draw Your Dream”.

Head of UNE-TL, Idelta Maria Rodrigues, said that the 25 members had gone through various preparations and, for the last stage, attended training from July 24 to July 28 at the PRR Manleuana Dormitory before departing.

“The Crocodilho delegation that participates in the World Jamboree in South Korea has increased. Their presence was there to train them to become good leaders in the future, the 25 participants were directly selected from various scout groups, and in the end, we selected 25 delegates.” Head of UNE-TL, Idelta Rodrigues, told Tatoli at PRR Manleuana

She added that 5,000 scouts from all over the world would be attending this Jamboree. As a result, the Timor-Leste delegation would exhibit the distinctiveness of their nation in a number of industries, including tourism. In addition, there will be Timor-Leste-specific cultural dances.

The Scout Movement Kwartir, from the branch level to the national level, organizes the Jamboree, a Gathering Scout Meeting that takes the form of a sizable camp.

UNE-TL has taken part in world organizations and has attended the World Jamboree four times. Previously, the committee had prepared 29 participants, but due to some administrative problems, only 25 were allowed to be sent.

The delegation team that left consisted of 12 men and 13 women, 16 of whom were directly supported by the Presidency of the Republic and the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts, and Culture (MYSAC), while 9 others were directly funded by the South Korean World Jamboree organizers.

The East Timor Catholic Scout Corps and the Timor-Leste Scout Organization, both members of the Lusophone Scout Community, merged on December 2, 2005, to become the UNE-TL organization. “At the moment, we have around 20,000 members”.
