DILI, 04 august 2023 (TATOLI) – The Clinical Director of Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV), Marcelino Correia, said that the construction materials for the new building of the Pediatric and Coronary Intensive Care Unit (UCIC) of HNGV are on the way to Timor-Leste from China.
The foundation stone of the construction of the five-story building was launched by the former Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak earlier this year.

China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) was the winning bidder of the construction project. The construction process will be supervised by Indonesian company PT Bennatin Surya Cipta.
“The work is underway. The materials are now being transported from China to Timor-Leste. Once those materials and equipment arrive, the physical work will start immediately,” Correia told reporters at the HNGV, in Dili.
The construction of the 5-storey building is expected to be completed by 30 january 2025, which will accommodate 327 beds with 81 midwives and 163 nurses.
The 8th Government allocated US$9.3 million from the State Budget for the construction of the building.
The construction of the unit is to improve specialized quality care provided at the HNGV for hospitalization of emergency cases and pediatric urgency.
It will also improve the national response to sporadic and emerging outbreaks of dengue, cholera, and other outbreaks with major public health impacts, particularly among newborns, children, and adolescents.
“We expect the company to construct the building according to the established plan to meet the deadline,” Correia hoped.
