MoH and CVTL evaluate sustainability of clean water and sanitation services in TL

DILI, 15 august 2023 (TATOLI)- Cruz Vermelha Timor-Leste(CVTL) and The Ministry of Health (MoH) through the National Director of Public Health, the Department of Environmental Health together with International Development Partners, conduct evaluation services related to the provision of clean water and sanitation.

General Director of Scientific Engineering at the National Public Health Agency, Doctor Bosco Alves dos Santos said that the purpose of the evaluation is to find out the important tasks of the Ministry of Health and partners in providing good health services to the community, especially in clean water and health (hygiene).

“So that all people can have access to clean water, the Ministry of Health has a program called Garbage Free Areas (Área La Soe Foer Arbiru, ALFA), so this can be implemented so that people can access defecating in the toilet,” said Doctor Bosco Alves dos Santos to reporters at the CVTL Formosa Dili office, this tuesday.

In addition, to address the problem of clean water, CVTL, and development partners also discuss it in providing quality clean water to the community.

At the same place, the CVTL General Secretariat, Luis Pedro Pinto stated that the meeting was to further strengthen the collaboration of all partners in providing clean water and sanitation to the community.

” Water and hygiene are two very important factors related to health, CVTL is committed to continuing to work with the Ministry of Health and other development partners because this work is related to planning government programs,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Department of Health for the Environment, Agostinho de Oliveira said since the provision of clean water and sanitation are very important and contribute to public health, the Ministry of Health has reached 46% of ALFA programs in municipalities, 35% in Administrative Posts, 75% of Villages and 73% of Villages, according to data submitted to Cabinet of Prime Minister every six months.

The meeting was attended by international partners such as the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Food Program (WPF), and international non-government organizations (NGOs), including other local NGOs.
