Over 6,000 Indonesian citizens will participate in the 2024 presidential election in Timor – Leste 

DILI, 17 august 2023 (TATOLI)— The Indonesian Embassy in Timor- Leste had registered over 6,000 Indonesian citizens who will attend the Presidential Election on february 14, 2024, which will take place at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Dili, The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Timor-Leste, Okto Dorinus Manik, revealed.

“The Embassy of Indonesia has registered over 6,000 citizens of Indonesia and will be ready to participate in the elections in February 2024 in Timor – Leste, Dili,” Ambassador Okto Dorinus Manik told reporters after attending the ceremony for the 78th Indonesian Independence Day at the Indonesian Embassy Dili on Thursday.

Ambassador Manik explained that the preparation process for the post-registration had been carried out by the Overseas Election Committee since early 2022 by collecting data on Indonesian people who stay in Timor-Leste; therefore, those people who had registered will have the right to vote in february 2024.

The registration process this time can be done easily and quickly because Indonesian citizens can register independently on the official website of the Service and Protection Portal for Indonesian Citizens Abroad (PEDULI WNI) from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It was explained that registration could only be done if the registrant met the minimum age requirements of 17 years old or older and had a passport and Identity card (KTP).

The Service and Protection Portal for Indonesian Citizens Abroad (PEDULI WNI) is a system that facilitates data collection for Indonesian Citizens Abroad through the self-report feature and makes it easier for Indonesian Citizens to apply for services online and bookings to come directly to representatives, as well as making it easier for Indonesian Citizens to apply for complaints independently directly through the application.

It is hoped that with this application, all Indonesian citizens abroad will be recorded in detail in order to maximize the service and protection of Indonesian Representatives Abroad.

Recalled that over 6,000 Indonesian citizens who stayed in Timor-Leste are, some married Timorese people, opened businesses, worked with international organizations, and some also worked with the government of Timor – Leste so far.
