DILI, 23 august 2023 (TATOLI)– The National Institute of Statistics of Timor-Leste (INETL) launched the Consumer Price Index (CPI) report in July 2023, which shows the changes for all products decreased to +0.3% from +0.6% in june.
INTL data shows that the prices of all goods changes occurred +0.3%, was caused by the contribution of the food and non-alcoholic beverage group +0.6%, transportation costs -0.7%, clothing, and shoes -0.2%, equipment, and maintenance furniture -0.1%, communications -0.2% and alcohol and tobacco -0.1%, which is the reciprocal of inflation for all groups.
“Meanwhile, the cost of non-alcoholic food and beverages increased by +0.6% which was caused by the vegetables sub-category +0.6%, rice +0.5%, food +2.7%, granulated sugar, beans nuts, honey, chocolate and sweets +1.9% and milk and eggs +0.4%. Meanwhile, fruits -0.6%, and seafood -0.4%,” explained the Director of INETL, Director Elias dos Santos Ferreira through a report accessed by Tatoli, on wednesday.
He explained that the annual CPI percentage change had increased by +7.1% compared to July 2023 and July 2022, which showed contributions from the food and beverage, cigarette and tobacco group +8.4%, non-alcoholic drinks, and tobacco +32.5 %, education +7.5%, clothing and shoes +1.8%, communication +0.6%, and housing +0.1%.
The transportation group -5.9%, leisure, and culture -1.1%, and home furnishings -2.5% being the reverse change of all group inflation for july 2023.
It said, tradable inflation increased by +0.3%, and non-tradable increased by +0.2% on the month, compared between july 2023 and june 2023. Hence, tradable and defensible inflation was +8.8%, and non-tradable and defensible increased by +2.8% in the year, compared between july 2023 and july 2022.
