MCI -INRIGA discusses economic development for commerce and industry sector in TL

Dili, 6 september 2023 (TATOLI)- The Minister of Commerce and Industry (MCI), Filipus Nino Perreira and Indonesian Non-Ministerial Government Agency, National Resilience Institute (INRIGA), Andi Widjajanto discussed the economic progress in the commerce and industry sector in Timor-Leste.

“We focused on industry and free commerce sector, export and import. We also discussed the illegal transactions in the border area between Indonesia and Timor-Leste.’’ Minister MCI, Filipus Nino Pereira said in a press conference, in the MCI conference room, Fomentu, this Tuesday.

He added that it is a very important discussion talking on free trade in Timor-Leste and Indonesia.

However, it required Timor-Lese to benefit from the Indonesian market for exporting the potential of Timor-Leste local products.

“Our discussion focuses on the economic development progress of the free trade sector. It is principal talking points today,’’ the Minister said

Timor-Leste is highly dependence on important products, as it needs the balance of trade for Export and Import.

Thus, the Timor-Leste government through the Minister of Commerce and Industry made an effort to ensure the export and import issue to boost economic development in this country.

“Indonesia experienced a lot in export and import balance to boost economic development for support micro-entrepreneurs. We adopt free market but we should know how to protect and promote for development of our national market, It is important to have selective intervention from the Minister of Commerce and Industry to ensure the economic development in Timor-Leste,’’ He said

In addition in the meeting, MCI also highlighted the development of cooperative development, Timor-Leste is required to gain experience from Indonesia cooperative group from NTT, Indonesia to boost economic growth in Timor-Leste.

In return, the Governador of INRIGA Andi Widjajanto shares their experience with the economic development in Indonesia and their concern about illegal transactions in the border area between Timor-Leste and Indonesia. So they are focused to more developing the economy in the border sector.
