DILI, 07 september 2023 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Tourism of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Al-Khateeb, visited Timor-Leste, on wednesday, to discuss with the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, the bilateral relations of the two countries.

“It’s an honor for us to meet with the President of the Republic. We discussed with him the bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Timor-Leste. We are very happy with the outcome of the meeting and we look forward to further strengthening our relations in all aspects, whether it’s trade, economic or political co-operation,” said Minister Khateeb after meeting Horta in Dili.

This visit is the first since the establishment of bilateral relations between Timor-Leste and Saudi Arabia in 2015.

“This visit is very special because Minister Khateeb is visiting the Pacific after Timor-Leste,” said Deonizio Babu Soares, General Coordinator for International Relations.

Horta and Khateeb discussed various bilateral issues, such as how Saudi Arabia can contribute to Timor-Leste’s development.

Minister Khateeb also shared with the Head of State about their preparations to host the Riyadh Expo 2030 and how Timor-Leste can participate in the exhibition.

On June 21, 2023, Saudi Arabia offered to allocate US$343 million as part of its program to assist 100 countries participating in the Riyadh Expo 2030.

President Horta welcomed the opportunity for further engagement to reinforce current bilateral relations.
