DILI, 07 november 2023 (TATOLI) – During his official visit to Brunei Darussalam, the President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta delivered a lecture at University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD) titled “Timor-Leste’s Difficult Journey to Independence and its Socio-Economic Trajectory”.
In his lecture, the President spoke about the challenges that Timor-Leste has faced since its independence in 2002, including the need to rebuild its infrastructure, economy, and social institutions.
Horta also spoke about the country’s efforts to develop its relations with its neighbors, including Brunei.
The Head of State expressed his gratitude to Brunei for its support for Timor-Leste’s development.
The President also said that he was keen to learn from Brunei’s experience in the areas of health, education, energy, and the environment.
The President of the Republic’s lecture was attended by an audience of students from the university and members of the Brunei Government. The lecture was followed by a lively question-and-answer session.
Horta’s visit to Brunei is a sign of the strong relationship between the two countries.
Timor-Leste and Brunei established diplomatic relations in 2002 and the two countries have been collaborating in a number of areas, including trade, investment, and tourism.
The President of the Republic’s lecture at UBD will help to deepen the understanding of Timor-Leste among the people of Brunei.
