Japan – ETTG host Japan Night Festival 2023 in Timor-Leste

DILI, 11 november 2023 (TATOLI) – The Embassy of Japan in Timor-Leste, in collaboration with the East Timor Trading Group (ETTG) hosted on saturday the Japan Festival, in Dili.

Samitha Aluwihare, Executive Director of ETTG, in his speech, said that the festival reflects the shared commitment to promoting diversity and understanding between Timor-Leste and other countries: “East Timor Trading Group is privileged to be the organizer of this event, an occasion that not only celebrates Japan but also reflects our commitment to promoting cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.”

“As we gather to celebrate Japanese culture, we also take pride in the fact that East Timor Trading Group, as an importer of a Japanese company–owned brand, has been fortune to collaborate with renowned entities such as Asahi Beverages. It is through this collaboration that we proudly bring you brands like Vodka Cruiser,’’ said Aluwihare. “Together, we create fun and exciting events. The more we put Timor–Leste on the map, the more we support the development of the flourishing tourism sector. This, in turn, attracts people from all corners of the world, supporting the diversification of the country ‘s economy and creating job opportunities for the Timorese people.”

The Japanese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Tetsuya Kimura, appreciated and thanked the East Timor Trading Group for organizing the Japan Night Festival 2023.

Kimura said that Japanese NGOs, such as PARCIC, Peace Winds Japan, and other Japanese NGOs, have worked extensively to provide support to local communities: “This is a good example of a partnership between Timor-Leste and Japan.”

He said that the cultural exchange is important for strengthening the friendship between the two countries: “I have always stressed the importance of people–to–people relationships.”

The Minister of Youth, Sports, Art and Culture, Nélio Isac Sarmento, emphasized that East Timor and Japan have had a good relationship since Timor-Leste’s independence: “This night festival will strengthen the ties between the citizens of both countries.”
