Euan Marshall expresses IFC’s interest to support TL’s private sector

DILI, 30 november 2023 (TATOLI) – The IFC’s Country Manager for Indonesia and Timor-Leste, Euan Marshall met with the Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão to discuss programs that can support the private sector in Timor-Leste.

Euan Marshall, accompanied by David Freedman, IFC Representative in Timor-Leste, conveyed to Gusmão IFC’s commitment to supporting the private sector in the country.

“During the meeting, we presented the IFC’s plan to help strengthen the private sector in Timor-Leste. Therefore, we are here to hear from the Prime Minister’s side about the plan,” Marshall told reporters at the Government Palace in Dili.

He said that the IFC has been working with the private sector in Timor-Leste, providing financial support for investment and technical assistance.

“PM Xanana told me that his government has a strong commitment to developing the private sector and diversifying Timor-Leste’s economy. He also spoke about our partnerships to support the private sector in developing the country’s private sector,” he said.

IFC is helping accelerate private sector development in Timor-Leste to create a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

Since 2006, IFC has helped to mobilize more than US$150 million in private investment and US$4.5 million of its own funds. As of July 2023, IFC’s advisory services portfolio comprised US$11.2 million in funds under management.
