DILI, 12 december 2023 (TATOLI) – Australia’s Special Representative for the Greater Sunrise Project, Steve Bracks, met the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, to convey the development of the Greater Sunrise field project, which has the support of the Head of State of Timor-Leste.
“The meeting with the head of state went very well. We, together with President Horta, discussed the same thing with the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, about the development of the Greater Sunrise field. Where, in the meeting, the President of the Republic is very supportive and supports the new Greater Sunrise project to run well in the future,” Steve Brack told reporters after meeting President Horta at the State Palace, Bairru-Pité, Dili, on Tuesday.
He emphasized that Australia has a strong commitment to build this project so he hopes that through the concept study that is currently underway, next year there will be a decision on the Greater Sunrise Development.
“Compared to the previous study, they prefer a contemporary and modern study in accordance with the current era, so the study will not be the same because many things have changed,” he said.
Australia’s Special Representative for the Greater Sunrise Project stated that Australia has a new mechanism to care for LNG in new markets and has agreements involving mining and gas projects.
“The Bayu-Undan project is nearing completion, and it is very important to develop the Greater Sunrise project, which is important for Timor-Leste to continue to earn revenue that will help the country’s economy,” he said.
He expects this project to be finished in the near future, and it will continue with technical negotiations. Both parties have an interest in developing the project in the near future.
