DILI, 17 january 2024 (TATOLI) – Directorate General of Statistics (DGS) of the Ministry of Finance reported that the December 2023 Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.1% compare to novembet.
According to data from the Directorate General of Statistics (DGS) of the Ministry of Finance, the increase was due to a 0.6% rise in the price of food and non-alcoholic drinks and a 1.2% rise in clothing and footwear.
Meanwhile, alcohol and tobacco fell by 0.6%, transport by 0.3%, and household equipment maintenance and household furniture by 0.1%.
“The prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 0.6%. The vegetable sub-group rose by 3.1%, the cheese, milk, and egg sub-group by 0.5%, the fish sub-group by 0.2%, the meat sub-group by 0.1%, and the coffee, tea, and cocoa sub-group by 0.4%. The oil and fat sub-group fell by 0.5%, sugar, marmalade, honey, chocolate, and sweets by 0.2%, and fruit by 0.3%,” said in a statement.
The annual CPI percentage recorded an increase of 8.8=7% in the previous year. The increase was due to price increases in various groups of food and non-alcoholic beverages (12.4%), alcohol and tobacco (23.6%), education (7%), clothing and footwear (0.6%), and communications (0.7%) contributed to this index.
