DILI, 22 january 2024 (TATOLI) – The National Directorate of Land Transport (DNTT) is going to rehabilitate 16 public transport stops in Dili this year, revealed the Head of Department of the Technical Support Secretariat of DNTT, Nelson Sequeira Martins.
“The Road Traffic Department has identified 16 bus stops that need to be rehabilitated. Since they were built during the Indonesian occupation, they have not undergone any kind of rehabilitation. So we need to rehabilitate them because they are badly damaged,” he said.
More than US$140,000 has been allocated for the rehabilitation projects.
Martins said that improving the stops will provide a safer environment for road users, especially the passengers.
“It will also help to avoid traffic congestion in the capital. Meanwhile, improving the stops will ensure better traffic flow, particularly on the most congested roads,” he said.
Martins said that the DNTT will inform passengers to use the bus stop and avoid stopping public transport in any undesignated area.
“Public transport must stop in the designated stopping zone. It’s part of new regulations that will be enforced to avoid traffic congestion,” he added.
