DILI, 02 february 2024 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Culture (MoHESC) announced that this year 5,236 students were admitted to Public higher educational institutions, including 4,774 at the National University of Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL) and 462 at the Polytechnic Institute of Betano (IPB), an increase of 432 compared to the class of 2023.
“A total of 4,446 students were admitted under the general regime and 790 under the special regime. Meanwhile, 93 students were admitted in the category of children of veterans and martyrs, 109 students were admitted in the ‘Hakbiit’ category, 25 students were admitted in the category of people with disabilities, and 75 students in the category of members of the Timorese National Defense Force (F-FDTL) and the Timorese National Police (PNTL).
According to the Rector of the UNTL, João Martins, the increase in the number of students entering the institution compared to last year is due to the increase in the number of courses on offer, since two courses were established this year, one in the Department of Forestry and the other in Sociology.
